Join me in supporting real change. Let’s support good in the world and make a difference. The more research we support, the quicker a cure can be discovered with Spastic Paraplegia Foundation, Inc.

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Spastic Paraplegia Foundation, Inc. (SPF)

SPF is working to fund medical research to find a cure for Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS), a degenerative neurological disorder of the upper motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, which results in increasing spasticity and weakness of voluntary muscles.

My mom, Patti Neilon, began experiencing symptoms of the disorder in her early forties, at first being diagnosed with MS. About a decade later, her diagnosis was made more accurately as PLS. She battled the disorder every day for over 30 years. At first using a cane or crutches, then a walker, and eventually requiring a wheelchair for all mobility. She fought like a warrior against the degeneration of PLS. She showed us all perseverance and indomitable spirit. She taught me how to keep going against the odds. Patti passed in 2019; I honor her with this fundraiser and have great faith that the donations we collect will fund research for those currently living with PLS, and for an eventual cure.

We’ve all heard of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and the famous fundraiser associated with it—The Ice Bucket Challenge. That challenge raised $115 million in just one summer! Let’s raise some money for PLS, a similar disorder spanning decades of one’s life. Spastic Paraplegia Foundation offers those living with PLS, and degenerative disorders like it, connection, support, and information, as well as funding important research.

PLS Awareness Week is August 21-28, 2022.

I will finish the awareness week on August 27, running the Strider Half Marathon in Milwaukee.
